Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts to open first Cote d’Ivoire property in 2018.
Management deal for 212-key Mövenpick Hotel Abidjan advances Swiss hospitality brand’s expansion campaign across Sub-Saharan Africa.
Dubai (United Arab Emirates), 1 October 2015. Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts will unveil its first property in Cote d’Ivoire in 2018.
Located in the country’s flourishing economic capital, the opening of the 212-key upscale Mövenpick Hotel Abidjan will advance the Swiss hospitality brand’s expansion strategy in the high-potential Sub-Saharan Africa region.
Occupying a prime area of land in Abidjan’s city centre, adjacent to the corporate and government district, the hotel will offer guests an impressive range of business, MICE and leisure facilities.
“Cote d’Ivoire is the second largest economy in West Africa with GDP growth hitting the double digits at 10% in 2014, according to the World Bank, which says the country has ‘great economic potential’,” said Alan O’Dea, Senior Vice President Africa, Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts.
“Abidjan is Cote d’Ivoire’s largest city, its most important commercial and banking centre, and its biggest seaport, known for mass agricultural exports from coffee to cocoa, and opening a property here is a strategic move that capitalises on the city’s growing prosperity as a major business hub.
“It also reinforces Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts’ presence in West Africa as part of our ambitious expansion plans for the Sub-Saharan region.”
Mövenpick Hotel Abidjan’s ownership is a joint venture between land owner Société Abidjanese de Promotion Industrielles et Immobilières (SAPRIM), a private company that owns the office complex and mall adjacent to the property, and renowned construction firm Bouygues Batiment International, which is listed in France.
When completed in early 2018 the hotel, which fringes the picturesque Ébrié Lagoon, will feature a fine dining specialty restaurant, an all-day dining outlet and lounge/bar; banqueting and conference facilities spanning a 300-square-metre ballroom, two meeting rooms and two boardrooms; an Executive Club Lounge; plus a fitness centre and rooftop outdoor swimming pool.
Mövenpick Hotel Abidjan is strategically located in the heart of the city’s Le Plateau business district, home to government buildings and local landmarks such as St. Paul’s Cathedral and Banco National Park and neighbouring Cocody, the city’s wealthiest district where diplomats and business magnates reside.
“The property will be well placed to facilitate trade missions, government-related business and general commercial trade, as well as high-society guests and events,” said O’Dea.
“Given travel and tourism’s direct contribution to Cote d’Ivoire’s GDP is expected to increase by 8.2% in 2015 and by 4.8% per annum until 2025, with leisure and business travel spend growing to reach US$1.13 billion and US$1.61 billion respectively that year, according to the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), it’s the right time for Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts to tap into this country’s great potential.” Ends
